BenQ W5000 Projector : 5J.05Q01.001 Lamp
The BenQ W5000 is the 2nd highest priced BenQ projector at a retail price of $4,999, and is also the only other BenQ model to offer full 1080p resolution. It seems as if you want to get the HD resolution you crave, you need to pay a little more money. However, you are starting at the bottom when it comes to other benefits, as BenQ’s XGA resolution series projectors are less expensive and are much brighter. All this said, don’t let this downside turn you away as there are many more features to discover that will attract you to this special projector. The number one thing you want to know about the W5000 is that you are getting genuine 1080p resolution and not simply what is called compressed resolution. Compressed resolution is what occurs when your projector’s “Native Resolution” is lower than the “Maximum Resolution” and needs to convert a higher resolution image to fit your screen. As long as you are not experiencing any distortion with your image, this normally should not affect your viewing experience. However, this is where you will really notice the difference between true HD and a compressed image generated from an HD feed. The BenQ W5000 is true HD, and when watching HD programs on TV or Blu-Ray you will definitely notice the reality upgrade. The actual resolution, in case your are dying to know, is 1920x1080p.
The W5000 is very important in another field as well, and this is Contrast Ratio. It boasts a stunning 10000:1 ratio, and basically means you will be hard pressed to find a dark spot that is anything other than black. On most other lower end projectors, you will get a very dark gray image when there is supposed to be a black area or dark area; whereas “contrast” on the W5000 is impeccable.
As mentioned earlier, the brightness is what is compromised when choosing this projector. It possesses 1200 ANSI Lumens, which is quite bright, but does not compare to the brightness of the lower level XGA projectors. BenQ may have designed the W5000 with lower lumens knowing that perhaps their consumer was probably going to install the projector into a proper entertainment room. A room designed to be dark with not much ambient light present. If you are looking for a replacement lamp for the W5000, click the link here.
There is very little noise produced by this projector as it employs an “ultra silent” high efficiency fan capable of being as quiet as 25.0 dB. It also has a very clean and neat input panel on the back including all 1080p variations. The last key feature, which is quite impressive, is the Anamorphic picture adjustment. The native resolution, which is set to a 16:9 Aspect Ratio, will adjust most programs on TV, which are a typical 4:3 ratio, to maximize clarity.
This should be pretty much all you need to know in order to make a decision. Take a quick look of the spec’s, sit down in a showroom, and then open your wallet.
