SIM 2..Manipulating The Universe
There is a new line of products from a little American company called SIM 2 that include a rear projection television, a revolutionary LCD monitor, and an incredible front projection system that may re-invent reality. The SIM2 CX3 DLP projector uses Texas Instruments Dark Chip and HD2 technology coupled with its own innovative “Light Engine”.Light must travel a certain length in order to fulfill the necessary requirements to provide a good image. Prior to reflecting from the DLP chip onto your screen, light must make its way from the projector lamp through series of “gates” and intermediate reflectors.
Until now, the light had to travel a relatively long distance before reaching the DLP chip. SIM 2 has engineered a light engine that effectively “folds” the light, therefore making the distance shorter. This is what allows them to manufacture a projector that is smaller, but can still produce a great image.
It begs the question of “how much smaller must the projector get until enough is enough”? The SIM 2 CX3 isn’t even that small, with dimensions of 17’’ wide, 17’’ long and 7’, and so it makes you wonder if the “folding” is simply a myth. Truth is, the CX3 is actually one hefty projector worth its weight in gold.
It provides super fantastic contrast, and a sickly bright image of industrial sized quality. The price tag says it all, reading close to $18,000 US, you certainly are not messing around if you are considering this projector.
The money you spend on this machine is definitely going into research and development costs for SIM2, and I wish I could say more about how the technology actually functions, but I can only speculate. The only explanation I can think of is by using an analogy of the human sub-system.
They say that if you stretch your intestines out completely from end to end, there is enough length to reach the moon. If the light was folded into a maze of corridors that snaked around the internal guts of the projectors in an effective way, then it would be possible to reduce the size of the projector.
All I know is that the CX3 is able to produce a contrast ratio of 6500:1 and picture quality that is unheard of. It comes equipped with 10 inputs for all your plug and play needs and is built for High Definition.
