Know Your Projector, Make Your Lamp Last.

There are many things you can do to maintain your projector to ensure that it lives a long healthy life at the center of your home theater’s world. As your projector lamp gets older and logs more hours, the image will naturally get dimmer and dimmer until the lamp goes out altogether or until the image it is displaying on the screen is no longer watchable. Most projectors these days include a function within the control panel menu that will allow you to track the number of hours the lamp has logged. In this way, you will be able ascertain when it is time to replace your lamp and you will be able to order a lamp in advance so that you won’t have any down time.

Most lamps these days last around 2000 – 3000 hours, however, the lamps found on this site, last minimum 3000 hours and our 120W lamps last 6000 hours! Make sure to read your instruction manual if you are having a difficult time figuring out how many hours your projector lamp has logged.

One of the most important things you can do to maintain the life of your lamp is to make sure your projector does not overheat. Try to mount your projector in a location where it won’t be taking on any direct sunlight (if possible) and if you can, make sure the temperature in your home does not exceed 24 (80F) degrees centigrade. Also, make sure to turn off your projector properly and allow for a significant cooling down period before you start the projector up again.

Refer to your manual for instructions on how to turn off your projector completely and always make sure that you clean the air filter. If too much dust starts to collect in your projector, not only will it “suffocate� the projector, but it may even spark a small fire that could possibly damage your projector lamp and the actual projector. Lastly, try to operate your projector in a clean environment; dust is your enemy when trying to prolong the life of your projector lamp.
